I like how this person didn't just outline the point of emphasis, but they made the lines around the point to put emphasis. When I look at this piece, my eyes immediately jump to the pine cone, the bottom right corner, and the top left.

3 The black lines around them and the gradual transformation from black to white as the shading got further away from the point of emphasis.

I have emphasis because I have lines putting emphasis on my 4 squares. I fill the page with different line patterns and these patterns create movement.
